If you have to go in the sledge you want the right insurance cover in place.
Off-piste is covered in all areas considered safe by the ski resort management and is NOT restricted to being with a guide. Cross country skiing is covered on recognised paths and sleigh riding through a licences operator.
However there is no cover for personal liability for skidooing, snowmobiling or jet skiing, sailing or yachting.

Great winter sports insurance cover including off-piste
"I was skiing at Les Deux Alpes in March 2011 when a lady broke her leg on the Clos de Chalance off-piste itinerary route. It was only later that day that her husband found out they were only covered for off-piste skiing if they were with a guide." said Pete Reed.
